Description — This is a view east down Geary Street in San Francisco.  The Bay Bridge can be seen between the buildings, and the Oakland hills are in the distance.  The photograph was taken in February 2004, in early evening.

Camera Nerd Info — Linhof Super Technika V 4×5 view camera, Nikkor-M 300mm f/9 lens, Provia 100F film, exposure unrecorded, no movements.

Commentary — Although the JPEG for this website isn’t that impressive, a large print of this image shows amazing detail.  A 4000 dpi drum scan of a 4×5 sheet of film gives a file that is 16,000 x 20,000 pixels, or about 1.8 gigabytes (yes, gigabytes) of information, including the film border.  This image was shot as a vertical then severely cropped.  Even so, it will make a print of more than 32×40 inches at 300 dpi.

Color is a challenge when everything is artificial light.  This scene might look better in black and white.
